Enugu Police Command has increased security on the streets of Enugu city by deploying hundreds of agents in an effort to restore normalcy.
Two people were reportedly killed by thugs enforcing Simon Ekpa’s five-day stay-at-home order at Enugu’s New Market early on Saturday.
Two unidentified victims are seen lying in front of the Enugu University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, in a video that has gone viral. According to reports, the enforcers of the stay-at-home policy fired upon early morning merchants.

Saturday at 6 a.m., a group of more than ten criminals stormed the area and opened fire, driving customers away from the market.
During the invasion, a police van was set on fire in front of Colliery Hospital in New Market, and two people were shot to death.
Residents of Enugu were immediately forced indoors out of fear of further attack.
However, a few minutes later, normalcy returned to the axis and the rest of the city as a result of the deployment of a crack team of Police Operatives to hunt down the armed thugs who shot randomly and violated public peace in the area.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Ammani ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Commanders of all the Tactical/Operational Units of the Command to ensure the maximum deployment of all the Command’s intelligence and operational resources at their disposal, to effectively patrol and fish out miscreants who may wish to disturb public peace and security, and/or disrupt the businesses and other activities of law-abiding citizens.
In a statement by Enugu Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe, the CP assured that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and law-abiding citizens, will never rest in its efforts to protect the lives and property of the citizenry from the undesirable activities of disgruntled and misguided criminal elements hell-bent on wreaking unwarranted havoc on themselves and fellow citizens.
