Over 20,000 APC members have declared their support for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
A total of 21,524 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties from the Plateau North Senatorial district switched allegiances to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday in order to help the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and its candidate for governor of the Plateau, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, win the general election of 2023.
The decampees, who included Hon. Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande of Jos North, a former minister of information and communication, pledged their loyalty to the PDP by supporting all of its candidates running for elective office in the general elections scheduled for February and March.
The state chairman of the party, Hon. Chris Hassan who received the decampees at the Atiku/Mutfwang campaign flag off rally for Plateau North, held at Langfield Resort in Jos South, assured the decampes that the party will carry them along in all its activities before and after the elections.
Hassan called on Plateau people to reject APC in the next election and vote PDP 5/5 to unify and rebuild Plateau and Nigeria.
Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang, on his part, told his party Faithfuls that the state has always voted for PDP since 1999 till date.
He noted that the state made a mistake for voting APC into power in 2015, which led to the current hardship and agony but said the people have resolved to vote PDP back to power in 2023.
Jang said with the mass turn out of Plateau people to PDP rally in Plateau South and North, he believed that the former National Chairman of the party, Chief Solomon Lar, was happy in his grave.
He noted that Plateau people are known for PDP and urged them to be committed to delivering all PDP candidates in the forth coming general election.
The Governorship candidate of the party in the state Barr Caleb Mutfwang admonished Plateau people to get their PVCs and exercise their franchise in the general elections election.
“Don’t allow anybody to deceive you, get your PVCs, and resist the pressure of APC from buying your votes. We assure you that both women and the youths will be given adequate attention when we get into government.” He stated.
He prayed for a peaceful election and urged the people to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during and after the election.
Former Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe and Nigeria, former Ambassador to Switzerland, Yahaya Kwande, appealed to the people of Plateau to vote PDP for the prosperity of the state and Nigeria.
On his part, the party’s Senatorial candidate for Plateau North Senatorial district Dr Simon Mwadkwon who responded on behalf of the contestants at the forth coming general election said they would not take the opportunity given to fly the party’s tickets at the general election for granted.
He urged their Supporters to vote for all PDP candidates from top to bottom.
