Nigerians evacuated from war-torn Sudan to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, may have to wait longer at the airport, as the Egyptian government has denied Air Peace airline a landing permit.

This denial prevented the airline from deploying its aircraft to Egypt yesterday to begin airlift operations this morning.

Remember that Allen Onyema, the chief executive officer of Air Peace, volunteered to pick up the stranded Nigerian students from Egypt for free.

However, as of yesterday, the Egyptian government insisted that Air Peace aircraft must have diplomatic approval from the federal government in order to land in its airport.

Allen Onyema, chief executive officer of Air Peace, disclosed this information in an interview with Channels Television and urged the federal government to take the necessary steps to bring the Nigerian students back home.

He stated, “Our pilots have been waiting at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport for the past five hours. Egypt has not yet issued us a landing permit. The Air Peace flight planners informed us that Egypt initially declined, stating that they will not grant permission until they receive diplomatic approval from the Nigerian government.

Therefore, we request that the Nigerian government communicate with them. ”The Foreign Minister is at the top of his game.Obviously, our Ambassador in Egypt, Nura Abba Rimi, is performing a tremendous job. He has been working tirelessly, has not slept in days, and has been frantically performing his duties. We are only awaiting the landing permit. As soon as we receive approval, Air Peace will depart for Egypt.”

On the move, he stated emphatically that the gesture by Air Peace was gratuitous and expressed displeasure over social media comments.

“We are working to promote national unity and affection. Some of the things I’ve been seeing on social media bother me. This is intended to create ethnic harmony in Nigeria, not discord. I implore Nigerians to consider this a national call.

Nobody offered me money, and I did not request it from anyone. We are taking these measures to evacuate our citizens. However, if the number becomes unmanageable, the government will step in to help pay the bill, as one person cannot shoulder it alone. Also, other airlines may participate.”
