Akpan Okon Akpan, a roadside petrol seller, is accused of killing his friend by burning him to death over a phone charger.
After an argument over a phone charger, Okon allegedly set the victim, Junior Ime Philip, ablaze and left him to burn to death.
Following the suspect’s arrest by command personnel, the Akwa Ibom Police Command confirmed the development.
Olatoye Durosinmi, the commissioner of police, paraded the suspect and other people at the command center in Uyo and claimed that during an altercation, the suspect doused the victim with gasoline and started the fire that ultimately resulted in Philip’s death.

“I don’t know the guy before, he ran into my shop and said he was looking for someone who collected his charger, and I told him that such a person was not in my shop,” the suspect said when explaining what caused him to act. He attacked me with a bottle out of rage, and I struck back.
“I used the fuel I’m selling and poured it on him. Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing until he started to burn and people gathered. We were trying to put out the fire but it was too late; by the time they got him to the hospital, he had already passed away.”
