According to a top official in his administration, the United States conducted a counterterrorism operation over the weekend on a critical Al Qaeda target in Afghanistan.
“No civilians were harmed, and the operation was successful.”

Losing al-Zawahiri would be the extremist group’s biggest defeat since the US killed Osama bin Laden, its founder, in 2011.
An anonymous US official who went on the record said that the CIA carried out a drone strike in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Sunday. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack had taken place and angrily condemned it as a violation of “international standards.”
