The AMVCA 2023 winners full list has been announced to much fanfare and excitement. The African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) is one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the African film industry, recognizing outstanding achievements in the field of filmmaking. The 2023 edition saw some of the biggest names in African cinema walk away with awards in various categories, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and many others.
The highly anticipated 2023 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) took place on May 20th, 2023.
Held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, the event celebrated the outstanding achievements and contributions of talented stars in the African film industry.
The Yoruba thriller by movie maker, Kunle Afolayan, Anikulapo, garnered four awards, being the highest in this year’s edition of the continental awards.

Anikulapo won in the ‘Best Soundtracker’ with Kent Edunjobi having his first-ever nomination and win in AMVCA.
Anikulapo, which is about the Old Oyo Empire, also won ‘Best Sound Editor’ (Anu Afolayan).
The third category won by Anikulapo was the ‘Best Movie or TV Series In Yoruba Language’, while the producer of the movie, Afolayan won ‘Best Director’ award for same movie.
Another creative work that got the second highest awards in its kitty is ‘Crime and Justice’ in Best Picture Editor category and another.
The AMVCA rewards the best in the movie industry. ‘Shanty Town’, which has several nominations has not won any so far, while ‘Battle of the Buka Street’ by Funke Akindele and ‘Brotherhood’ by Jade Osiberu have won one award each so far.
In the ‘Best Online Content Creator’, Kie Kie and Elozonam won the category.
Singer Iyanya thrilled the audience by serenading them.
Also, on stage were Spyro and Tiwa Savage, who entertained the audience.

In addition to the award categories, the AMVCAs 2023 also recognised outstanding contributions to the industry. Patience Ozokwo was honoured with the 2023 Industry Merit Award for her remarkable career in the film industry.
Angel Unigwe received the Trailblazer Award, recognizing her as a rising star and visionary talent.
The movie “Anikulapo” directed by Kunle Afolayan emerged as the Best Overall Movie in Africa, showcasing Afolayan’s exceptional filmmaking skills and storytelling prowess
