Ortom Calls for New Naira Notes deadline Extension
Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, has joined other Nigerians in requesting a delay in the deadline for the phase-out of the old naira notes.
The Governor made this known on Wednesday in Makurdi when he met with the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Governing Council.
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor declared on Tuesday that the organization would not extend the 31 January deadline for phase-out of the old naira notes.
The visible sign is that there are many people, especially in the rural areas, to transfer the old notes, Ortom said in response to CBN’s stance. I am still waiting to see the new naira notes as a governor.
“For this reason, I’ll work with other Nigerians to critically examine this so that we don’t make our people’s situation worse.
“To say that our people in Nigeria are suffering is an understatement. People in this country are suffering. Things are not at all in order. To investigate and extend the deadline, I’m calling the president.
