Adamawa Govt Rejects Buhari’s Request To Hold Campaign At State Square

President ’s request to use the state-owned Ribadu Square in Yola, the state capital, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign was denied by the Governor Ahmadu Fintiri-led Government.

This online media outlet learned that Buhari is slated to head the APC’s campaign in the state on Monday, according to Festus Keyamo (SAN), the party’s chief spokesperson and director of public affairs.

The president is anticipated to join the APC presidential campaign train in “at least 10 states,” including Adamawa.

However, the administration headed by Governor Fintiri rejected the use of the stadium, claiming that the square was undergoing renovations at the time.

Buhari’s planned visit to take part in the APC rally at Ribadu Square was previously announced to the Adamawa State Government by the president’s chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

Bashiru Ahmad, the secretary to the state government, responded to Buhari’s request by stating that the facility wouldn’t be open on the suggested date.

“I write to acknowledge your letter ref. SH/COS/28/16/A/793 dated 3rd January 2023 addressed to His Excellency, the Governor, in respect to the above subject matter,” Ahmad wrote in response to the Presidency.

“Despite political party differences, we always prepare to give the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria a hearty welcome and the highest level of respect whenever we learn that he will be visiting Adamawa State.

“Please take note that Ribadu Square, the only appropriate location that is secure enough to host Mr. President on occasions like this, is currently undergoing extensive renovations. This proposed visit is scheduled for January 9, 2023, and it will serve as a rally.

As a result, we write to let you know that, despite our best efforts, we are unable to ensure that Ribadu Square will be ready in time for the flag-off, despite how much we would like to do so.

However, we and the contractors are working nonstop and frantically to prepare the location for the President to arrive on January 18, 2023, when the APC’s presidential campaign train stops in our state.

I sincerely hope that you will consider the aforementioned in your planning, sir, and please accept my highest respect for your prestigious position.

But Mustapha Ribadu, the APC’s state organizing secretary, insisted in a Friday interview with ejesgist.ng that nothing would prevent the party from holding its rally.

For our presidential rally on January 18, the party had originally requested Ribadu Square in a letter, which the state government had approved.

“To enable us to use the square for the reception of and our presidential candidate on the 18th January, the government went further and started the square’s renovation.
