Latest Bolanle Raheem News Update: IGP Orders Suspension Of ASP Vandi

The police officer who allegedly shot and killed Mrs. Bolanle Raheem as she was leaving a church service on Christmas has been suspended immediately, according to Inspector General of Police Usman Baba.

IGP Baba ordered the immediate suspension of ASP Vandi in a statement that was obtained by ejesgist.ng on Wednesday in order to create a conducive environment for the necessary legal processes to uphold justice in the case without obstruction.

Recall that On Christmas Day, a police officer is accused of shooting Mrs. Raheem at close range in the Ajah neighbourhood of Lagos State.

The suspension is in accordance with the internal disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force, according to a statement made by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja (NPF).

The statement reads: “While awaiting the thorough investigation report on the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, has recommended the immediate suspension of Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, the officer assigned to the Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command. Vandi shot and killed Barrister Omobolanle Raheem.

“The IGP noted that the recommendation for the officer’s suspension is consistent with the Force’s internal disciplinary procedures.

The IGP went on to say that the suspension is also anticipated to foster an environment that will enable the required legal processes to be carried out without obstruction and uphold justice in the case.

The constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer is unaffected by the suspension.

“In the meantime, the IGP has reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the Rule of Law and reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to making sure that justice is not only served in this case but is also clearly seen to have been served. Therefore, he makes an appeal to the general public to maintain their composure while steps are being taken to ensure justice is served and future occurrences are prevented.
