In lieu of the Northern Governors Case against Buhari over new naira scarcity, 13 Political Parties threaten to pull out of 2023 Elections

Some Nigerian political parties have said they might not run in the general elections in 2023 because of what the Central Bank of Nigeria () is doing with the naira.

Kenneth Udeze, the National Chairman of the Action Alliance, said at a briefing in Abuja held by a coalition of chairmen of political parties that 13 of the 18 registered political parties will drop out of the general elections on February 25 and March 11 if CBN extends its deadline of February 10.

He didn’t say what the 13 political parties were called.

Udeze said that the parties won’t care about the elections if the new deadline of February 10, 2023, is moved, as some governors of the All Progressives Congress have asked (APC).

“We’re letting you know that at least 13 of Nigeria’s 18 political parties won’t be taking part in the general elections in 2023. We’ll also stop taking part in the elections if this currency policy is suspended or canceled or if the date is moved again.”
