Protesters storm national assembly, calls for annulment of presidential election

Some protesters have stormed the national assembly in Abuja in response to Nigeria’s recently concluded presidential election.

The protesters carried placards with phrases such as “Save our Democracy,” “INEC + Corruption, Politicians are killing our Democracy,” and “INEC is destroying Nigerian democracy.”

This occurs less than twenty-four hours after a protest erupted at the Unity Fountain in Abuja on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has denied working against Labour Party candidate Peter Obi in the February 25 presidential election.

He said Peter Obi is ungrateful.

In addition, the governor stated that he never encouraged Rivers residents to vote for President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

On Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Wike stated this in a media interview with journalists.

He denied allegations that he rigged the Presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and House of Representatives elections in Rivers State to favour his preferred candidates.

 

According to him, Rivers supported the unity of Nigeria by voting for Tinubu in the presidential election.

He emphasized that his objective from the beginning of the presidential election was clear: the president must be from the South.

He added that he had never opposed Peter Obi.

 

“I’ve never urged Rivers residents to vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but rather for Nigerian unity.” Regarding Rivers State, there was a shift in power to the south.
