Gunmen invade Kukah’s parish, kidnap priests

On Wednesday morning, armed individuals stormed into one of the churches that Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto presided over as pastor.

According to information obtained by , the gunmen seized four people from the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Gidan Maikambo, which is situated in the Kafur Local Area of State. Among those taken were two priests.

Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto States are all included in the jurisdiction of Bishop Kukah’s Sokoto Diocese.

Rev. Christopher Omotosho, who serves as the Director of Social Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, provided reporters with confirmation of the new information on Wednesday morning.

He stated that the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto is currently under siege, and that no information regarding the whereabouts of the abductees has been received.

Omotosho reported that as of twelve o’clock in the morning on the 25th of May, 2022, armed men broke into the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Gidan Maikambo, which is located in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“The parish priest, his assistant Reverend Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara, along with two boys who were in the house, were taken captive.

There is no information available on their whereabouts. Please pray that they will be protected and set free.

According to a report that was published in The Nation on May 14, riotous hoodlums set fire to and vandalised many parishes in Sokoto that were presided over by Kukah because of his denunciation of the horrible murder of Deborah Yakubu at the hands of her Muslim coworkers.

After being accused of committing blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed, a student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto who was studying Home Economics at the 200-level was brutally murdered and set on fire.
