According to a trustworthy source in the area, Okoro-Emegha opposed the election of a youth group in the neighbourhood on December 24, when supporters of the outgoing chairman of the Afikpo South LGA, Eni China, emerged as the group’s principal officers.

According to the source, the APC leader had voiced his displeasure with the election and reportedly caught the attention of the new Council area chairman, Hon. Chima Ekumankama, who called for the dissolution of the group and called for the election to be called off.

The hoodlums allegedly opened fire on the APC stalwart and his Ebubeagu orderlies during a visit to the area, engaging them in a gunfight.

The party chieftain withdrew and travelled to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, after determining that the alleged AK-47 carrying hoodlums had outnumbered his Pump Action-wielding Ebubeagu orderlies.

While he was in Abakaliki, word arrived that the alleged hoodlums had set fire to his country home.

Even though it was believed that the Ebonyi Police Command’s rank and file had taken over the community to prevent further breakdown of law and order, calls and messages made and sent to it were neither answered nor responded to as of the time this report was filed.

However, Okoro-Emegha, the chairman of the APC, confirmed the incident and claimed that thugs loyal to a local politician attacked him and set fire to his home.

Yes, he replied. It is real. The same individuals—some of whom I know—attacked me tonight in the Ekoli Edda community, and I just learned that they also set my home on fire.
