Efforts to locate and rescue the passengers are being hampered by harsh weather conditions and heavy fog, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the accident site. State media in the Islamic Republic reported that rescue teams are on their way to the area.

President Raisi, 63, was visiting the province to inaugurate a dam project together with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliev, on the border between the two countries. The presidential convoy included three helicopters, with the other two helicopters reportedly reaching their destination safely.

The outcome of this incident remains uncertain, and the Iranian nation is anxiously awaiting further updates on the safety of their president and other officials aboard the helicopter.

Where did the Iranian president’s helicopter crash?

The crash occured near Jolfa, a city on the border with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
