Kebbi LG Chairman impeached, for gross misconduct
Justice Umar Abubakar, the acting chief judge, has sworn in Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim as the acting chairman of the Aliero Local Government Area of Kebbi.
Ibrahim was sworn in after Alhaji Shuaibu Aliero was removed from his position as chairman of the council on March 27 for gross misconduct.
On Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, Abubakar administered the oath of office and allegiance to the acting chairman and acting vice chairman of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abubakar Ibrahim.
Earlier, the State Government Secretary Alhaji Babale Umar-Yauri stated that the impeachment was in accordance with the state’s local government law.
“It enables councillors of the local government council to remove the local government chairman for gross misconduct with a two-thirds majority.
“On this basis, the Aliero local government councillors removed Shuaibu Aliero on March 27 for gross misconduct,” he said.
In his role as overseer of the oath-taking ceremony, Governor Atiku Bagudu advised the newly elected acting chairman and his vice to comply with all local government statutes and regulations.
“As Muslims, you should govern with the fear of Allah and seek his protection when directing the local government’s affairs,” he said.
Bagudu, represented by his Deputy Alhaji Sama’ila Yombe-Dabai, prayed to Allah for the country’s leaders at all levels of government to be endowed with wisdom.
