Man City’s Named Premier League Player of the Season

Erling Haaland was named the Premier League’s Player of the Season on Saturday, following a record-breaking debut season in which he scored a sackful of goals as Manchester City won its third consecutive league championship.

Haaland has scored 36 goals in 35 Premier League matches this season, surpassing the previous record of 34 goals set by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer nearly three decades ago.

The general public, the captains of the 20 Premier League clubs, and a panel of football experts voted the Norwegian Player of the Season.

Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20 and 2021-22 and Ruben Dias in 2020-21 are the most recent City players to win the award, making it a four-year streak.

Haaland defeated De Bruyne, the Arsenal duo of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, and Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier.

He was also named the Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association after receiving a record 82% of the vote.

Haaland will have the opportunity to add to his Premier League total on Sunday, when City travels to Brentford for their final game of the year.
