Police arrest Imo monarch over anti-Uzodimma publication
Police have arrested Eze Ekene Obinali, the traditional ruler of Umucheke in Umuobom in the Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.
The monarch was arrested by the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the state police command for allegedly sharing a highly critical article about the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, on the WhatsApp platform.

The embattled traditional ruler reposted the article on the WhatsApp group platform Ideato Voice on March 20.
The administrator of the platform, Vitus Ezenwa, confirmed to our correspondent that the monarch had been arrested and detained by the police on Wednesday.
Ezenwa stated that he was initially arrested by the police and released on bail after the traditional leader was apprehended by the police.
According to him, the media content for which the monarch is being held in police custody has the headline “Gov. Hope Uzodimma in a new scandal.”

According to the publisher, the media content discusses the role of the late Ahmed Gulak in the 2018 All Progressives Congress primary election for governor in Imo State.

Henry Okoye, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the monarch when contacted. He added, however, that the matter was being investigated.
