BREAKING: Police captures Notorious IPOB Commander ‘Bongo’

The State Commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB/ESN), Sunday Ubah a.k.a. Bongo, has been taken into custody by the Ebonyi State Police Command.

SP Chris Anyanwu, the police public relations officer, revealed this in a statement made available to journalist in Abakaliki.

Anyanwu claims that on December 14, 2022, the thugs were located and pursued along Agba-Isu road.

He also said that two of the criminals were neutralised while the other four fled with varying degrees of bullet wounds, while a few police officers received minor injuries.

Parts of the statement read, “Ebonyi State Police Command has once more raided one of the largest and most notorious IPOB/ESN camps located at Obegu, a border area between Onicha-Isu and Ishielu LGAs of Ebonyi State.

“A previous encounter between members of the Command’s Tactical Teams led to credible information being gathered that the hoodlums were operating/causing havoc in the state with a Toyota Sienna space bus that they had robbed the owner of at gunpoint within the Ishielu axis.

“Sunday Ubah, also known as Bongo, the State Commander of the IPOB/ESN in Ebonyi State, was apprehended after a quick investigation and cooperative effort with a team of detectives attached to Ohaukwu Division.

The rogue who provided revealing details about the criminals’ tactics and methods initially identified himself as their PRO and a native of Umunnochi in the Isuikwuato LGA, Abia State.

But a meticulous investigation helped by his background and profile with the Police Command revealed that he is an Obegu native and the factional commander of the group in Obegu.

“On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, a gun battle broke out between police officers as the hoodlums were being pursued and tracked down along the Agba-Isu road.

Two of the hoodlums were killed, one (the commander) was captured, and several others managed to flee with varying degrees of bullet wounds.

A joint team of the Command’s Tactical Teams, the Military, and the DSS, armed with reliable information gathered from the suspect, swooped on the Commander’s and other people’s homes as a follow-up.

The PPRO did point out that the detained suspect is assisting the command’s detectives in their ongoing investigation.
