Prof. Banji Akintoye has handed in his resignation as the head of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, the organisation that was leading the Yoruba people in their fight for self-determination.

Akintoye is said to have passed leadership of the organisation on to Prof. Wale Adeniran, his former Deputy, according to a statement released by the group’s General Secretary, Tunde Amusat, on Thursday, December 22.

According to Amusat, the reasons for Akintoye’s actions were old age and a weakened body system.

Amusat further stated that the worldwide congress of Ilana Omo Oodua took place on December 17th, 2022. During this time, the organisation accepted Akintoye’s resignation as leader and affirmed Adeniran as the new leader.
