“The Department of State Services (DSS) has identified several key participants in the Nigerian coup plot. The Service views the plot, which is being pursued by these entrenched interests, as not only an anomaly but also a mischievous attempt to subvert the constitution, undermine civil rule, and precipitate an avoidable national crisis.

Illegality is completely unacceptable in a democracy and among Nigerians who value peace. This is exacerbated by the fact that the vast majority of the nation’s elections were conducted without incident.”

“In their numerous meetings, the planners have considered various options, including, among others, sponsoring endless violent mass protests in major cities to justify a State of Emergency declaration. Another strategy is to obtain frivolous court injunctions to prevent the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative chambers at the federal and state levels.

“The DSS supports the President and Commander-in-commitment Chief’s to a smooth transition and will work diligently in this direction.

In addition, it supports the Presidential Transition Council and similar organisations in Nigeria. It will collaborate with them and other security and law enforcement agencies to ensure that inaugurations on May 29, 2023, proceed without incident.”
