CONUA Blows Hot Drags FG to Court over withheld salaries

The Congress of University Academics, also known as CONUA, has announced that it intends to file a lawsuit against the Federal for failing to pay the salaries of its members for the eight months that the government has withheld.

The body expressed its displeasure on Tuesday, in a statement that was signed by the National Coordinator, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, the National Secretary, Dr. Henri Oripeloye, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ernest Nwoke.

The statement said that the body was disappointed that the government refused to pay its members their dues, despite the fact that it was obvious that its members were not involved in the strike that rocked public universities from February 14 to October 14 of 2022.

According to the union, it made it abundantly clear in a number of letters written to various agencies of the government, including the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, that it was not a part of the strike that was called by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, which is abbreviated as ASUU.

Meanwhile the Academic Staff Union of Universities has stated in it’s just concluded NEC meeting it’s next Action in lieu of the withheld salaries.

The Union decided to shun strike and continue it’s protest showing to Nigerians what the government is doing and how well they are given time to make a U- turn.

A source familiar with the union who pleaded anonymity stated this after the just concluded NEC Meeting in Calabar.
