Court extends Seun Kuti’s remand by four days
On Thursday, a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos granted Seun Kuti’s request for an extension of his remand for an additional four days.
Mrs. Adeola Olatubosun, the Chief Magistrate, extended Kuti’s remand until May 22.
The application was filed by Mr. Simon Lough (SAN), who led a police legal team before the court.
According to him, the extension will permit additional investigation of the case.
He allegedly committed the crime on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State on May 13.
The police charged him with slapping an inspector after he drove recklessly on the bridge and obstructed a moving police vehicle on purpose.
Mr. Kuti was arraigned on Tuesday, at which time the chief magistrate ordered his 48-hour detention.
At the conclusion of the 48-hour remand, she ruled that the defendant should be granted bail in the amount of one million Naira with two sureties in the same amount.
She indicated that one of the sureties must be a landlord within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the hearing until May 22 and ordered the prosecutor to make a copy of the case file and send a copy to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.
