Ogun Court Voids suspension of Ex-Deputy Speaker of Ogun State house of Assembly
Former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dare Kadiri, has had his suspension declared unconstitutional by the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta.
In a lawsuit filed before the court, Justice O. A. Onafowokan of the Abeokuta Judicial division, High Court 3, ruled that the suspension of the lawmaker was an abuse of power and an abuse of office on the part of Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, the House of Assembly, and the Clerk of the House. The judge rendered this decision while delivering the verdict.
The court further ordered that the state legislature pay the lawmaker, who represents Ijebu North II State Constituency, all compensation owed to him immediately.
Recall that in September 2022, the House suspended Kadiri and another representative of the Remo North State Constituency, Solomon Osho, for alleged violations of the state legislature’s rights and privileges.
In a plenary meeting presided over by the Speaker at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the House announced that the legislators had been suspended in accordance with sections 14 and 15 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act of 2017.

The Speaker asserted during the session that the document containing the suspension of the legislators had been signed by the required number of fellow legislators; therefore, no additional procedure is required prior to its implementation.
However, the House later pardoned and reinstated Osho, while Kadiri challenged his suspension in court.
