Effiong-Okon takes over in Rivers, calls for synergy among stakeholders

The new police chief in State, CP Okon , has urged all stakeholders to work together to create a favorable environment for business and other activities for the locals of Rivers.

The CP announced the decision during his first press conference on Wednesday at police headquarters in Port Harcourt, taking over from the previous CP, Friday Eboka, who has been elevated to the position of Assistant Inspector General of police.

A stronger synergy with sister agencies was also requested by Effiong-Okon, particularly in the areas of “information sharing and intelligent gathering,” which he described as “important tools in the fight against criminality.”

The government has “invested” significantly in security, according to Rivers State’s 42nd commissioner of police, who pledged that the command he heads will ensure that the money wasn’t wasted.

The CP warned those who did not want the Rivers people to live in peace to stay away from them or prepare to face the law while promising a more “proactive system of policing.”

Speaking about the upcoming general elections in the State, CP Effiong-Okon issued a warning that electoral violence of any kind, including “thurgery,” will not be tolerated.

The CP admonished parents and guardians to watch out for their kids and wards and make sure they “do not allow themselves to be used as thugs or be ready for a war from the police.”

In addition, he pledged to send out patrol teams throughout the State while guaranteeing the defense of human rights.
