Abducted Kogi Monarch Dies In Kidnapper’s Den

 

Chief , the traditional leader of the Aghara community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State, was reportedly killed in captivity after being kidnapped on Easter Monday.

 

According to reports, Chief Obadofin died on Thursday, approximately 12 days after he was kidnapped, when he could no longer withstand his captors’ torture.

However, Temidayo Elewa, his co-captive, was released. Elewa was picked up in Obajana, the cement town in the Lokoja LGA, on Saturday morning by family members who rushed her to an unnamed hospital for treatment.

A source involved in the negotiations for their release has confirmed that when the kidnappers observed that the monarch was becoming too weak, they lowered the ransom from N60 million to N2 million and increased pressure for the payment.

 

“In the meantime, they blindfolded Temidayo and took her to a separate location. Unfortunately, the king passed away before the ransom could be paid.”

The source added that the kidnappers set Temidayo free when they realised the advance search group of hunters, vigilantes, and Fulani volunteers was closing in on them. “She roamed the jungle alone from Thursday to Friday,” the source said. After many hours, she eventually met a sawing machine operator who led her to freedom.”

“Temidayo has been transported to the hospital. She was found in a village located behind Obajana. Regarding Baba, we are aware that he is deceased, but we are still searching the jungle for his remains.

 

Obadofin, a prominent cashew farmer, and Temidayo were abducted from his farm residence in Aghara at approximately 11 p.m. on Easter Monday. Widow Toyin Onare, who worked on the farm as a labourer, was also fatally shot by the gunmen.

 

Toyin was rushed to the hospital in Kabba, the LGA’s administrative centre, a 35-minute drive away. Sadly, her death was confirmed upon arrival.

 

Since his abduction, the late monarch’s chances of survival have been of concern, as he was said to be on medication for age-related diseases in addition to the trauma and harsh treatment he received at the hands of the gunmen.
