Taraba Labour Party Executives Suspend Chairman Over Allegation Of Fraud

Following Mrs. Esther Gulum’s suspension as the party’s state chairperson, the Labour Party in Taraba State is in disarray.

Party leaders unanimously approved a vote of no confidence in her after suspending her from office over the alleged theft of an enormous N20 million in campaign funds.

The collective action that was brought on Tuesday indicted her for running the party with her family members as a family business.

Peter Philip, the organising secretary of the Labour Party, briefed journalists in Jalingo and stated that the party had lost confidence in her leadership, leading to both the suspension and the passage of the vote of no confidence.

.

According to Philip, the reason for the suspension from office is to allow the party executives to conduct a thorough investigation into how the aforementioned sums of money were “misused by her.”

Her involvement in anti-party activities, such as working for the state government and using her personal accounts to manage the party’s affairs in the state, was also charged by the enraged executive members.

They claimed she has consistently disobeyed the party constitution since assuming the leadership role and accused her of acting without “accountability and transparency in running the affairs of the party in the state.”

Philip claims that her suspension is for six months, but they have promised to keep working around the clock to figure out how she spent the money intended for the presidential candidate’s campaign rally.

Taraba Labour Party Chairman Responds

When contacted for comment, the party’s chairperson not only refuted the accusations but also called them untrue, claiming that the executives were targeting her because she is a woman.

The executives are only trying to blackmail me because I am a woman, she claimed. I am not a crooked leader.

Gulum urged those who were accusing her to go above and beyond the call of duty to substantiate their claims.

It is naive and false to claim that Peter Obi’s campaign council gave me N20 million and I embezzled it; I was given only N9 million, and I used it wisely and with a clean record.
