Addressing State House correspondents, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, who conveyed the President’s message, disclosed that the President requires frequent consultations in accordance with the nation’s needs and will initiate a number of reforms.

The President also ordered the security agencies to develop a plan to address the issue of crude oil theft, indicating the need to adapt to the changing circumstances.

 

Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, and Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba were in attendance at the President’s first meeting with the heads of the nation’s security and intelligence agencies.

 

Others include Yusuf Bichi, Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), and Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

At the conclusion of the meeting President Tinubu had with the Service Chiefs, IGP, and Heads of Intelligence Agencies, he stated that his approach to security issues is to implement modern security measures to improve the country’s security situation.

 

‘I Will Defend Nigeria From Terror’

On Monday, during his inaugural address at Eagle Square, Tinubu promised, among other pressing matters, to prioritize security.

 

He stated, “We will defend the nation against terrorism and all forms of crime that threaten the peace and stability of our nation and our subregion.”

“Security will be our administration’s top priority because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail in an environment of insecurity and violence.

 

“In order to effectively combat this threat, we will reform our security doctrine and architecture.

“We will invest more in our security personnel, which entails more than a simple increase in headcount. We will provide superior training, equipment, pay, and firepower,” he continued.
