Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, , has taken legal action by filing a libel suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

In the suit with reference number CV/6273/2023, Alison-Madueke alleges that false and defamatory reports were written and published by the EFCC and the AGF on the agency’s website and other news platforms, tarnishing her reputation as a corrupt and dishonest public officer.

According to the former minister, these publications have maliciously smeared her integrity and character, which she considers crucial to the success of her political aspirations. In a writ of summons submitted to the Federal High Court in Abuja by her legal representative, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Alison-Madueke is seeking several reliefs.

Firstly, she requests that the court orders the defendants to retract the publications and issue an unreserved apology to her in three national newspapers. This is in response to the false, injurious, malicious, and libelous nature of the reports that have been circulating for the past eight years.

Additionally, Alison-Madueke seeks a court order restraining the defendants from further distributing similar offensive and libelous materials or stories about her.

Furthermore, the former minister is pursuing substantial damages from the EFCC and the AGF. She demands the sum of N100,000,000,000.00 (100 billion naira) as compensation for the harm caused by the false and injurious publications on the EFCC’s publishing platform, allegedly orchestrated by both the agency and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
