Fuel Price Hike: Drama As EFCC Raids Kaduna Filling Stations

Parts of Kaduna State were recently engulfed in serious drama on Thursday.

This is as a result of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) officials storming fuel stations in Kaduna city due to the increase in the price of fuel.

The majority of filling stations that the officials visited sold fuel in Jerrycans and at prices higher than the legal maximum of 185 cents per litter.

This online newspaper gathered that armed mobile police officers and EFCC officials arrived at the MRS filling station along Akilu in Kaduna metropolis at around 1:30 pm.

As car owners waited in line to buy, they went around to make sure the filing station was not selling items above the official price.

While the operatives were present, attendants stopped selling fuel, but resumed after they left the station.

“They are not hoarding fuel here,” a motorist claimed. “They still sell a litre of fuel at 185, including to people who brought Jerrycans,” he added.

In a similar manner, the anti-corruption officials stormed the Gura Nigeria Limited filling station on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass and demanded that the staff switch to the official rate of 185 per litre instead of the 280 they were charging.

The EFCC officials went back to the 5energy filling station in Mando, where they halted fuel sales at 292 per litre.

Fuel was being sold at 290 at Usmania Petroleum Station, also on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass, but EFCC officials told them to change it to the standard price.

The representatives went to Kamlik Nigeria Limited, which sells at a price of 299 per litre.

An anti-graft commission employee who requested anonymity said they went to those filling stations to compel them to sell at official prices.

It is sad to see that these filling stations do not even care about Nigerians’ suffering. How can you sell at more than 185 cents per litre if not? The official stated, “We will make them follow the rules.
