The Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele has returned to the Nigeria weeks after staying away from the country.
This occurs as rumors about his impending arrest by the Department of State Service are spreading.
Following the investigation into several allegations against him, including corruption and funding for terrorism, Emefiele has been out of the country for a while.
Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja denied the DSS’s request for an arrest warrant for Mr. Emefiele.
The CBN governor was allegedly involved in “acts of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes of national security dimension,” according to the DSS’s application, which asked the court to order his arrest.
On December 7, 2022, the DSS submitted the application to the court with the marking FHC/ABJ/CS/2255/2022.
The lawsuit was filed “ex parte,” which means Mr. Emefiele was not notified of it. Mr. Emefiele was the only defendant.
A source who spoke with this online newspaper claims that the CBN governor received approval from President Muhammadu Buhari for a two-week leave that ended on Tuesday.
He had to report to work on Wednesday because his vacation had ended on Tuesday, the source said.
The source also stated that Mr. Emefiele intends to leave the country once more very soon out of fear that he may be detained by the secret police as a result of the ongoing power struggle at the Federal Government.
On the pretext of attending the annual World Economic Forum, he is attempting to leave within the next few days, according to their source.
However, as of Thursday afternoon, attempts to contact Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, and Osita Nwanisobi, the spokesperson for the Central Bank of Nigeria, for comments had failed.
