In response to the APC’s statement, Mr. Ani said that the commission cares about Nigeria and has decided to replace Ms. Muhammad as a result.

“The Commission wants to say with all sense of responsibility that its Commissioners who represent different geopolitical zones have always supervised Commission assignments in the geopolitical zones they represent. The current national assignment was the same.

“The Commission will always pay attention to what Nigerians want and will keep doing what it can to keep the country’s democracy strong.

“It wants to say again that it is committed to free and fair elections in 2023, and that the police, as the main agency in charge of internal security, which includes election security, will do its job according to the law,” the statement said.

Before she joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support Atiku Abubakar for president, Ms. Muhammad was a director on the APC campaign council.
