5 Things You Need To Know About Rapper AKA Who Died At 35

The murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, better known by his stage name AKA, shocked many, especially his fans around the world.

On Friday night, AKA was fatally shot on Florida Road in Durban, South Africa, according to police sources.

Here are five facts about the renowned Rapper AKA;

1. AKA, born in January 1988 and raised in Cape Town, rose to prominence after the release of “Victory Lap” from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2010).

2. AKA remained in the spotlight by releasing studio albums such as Levels (2014), Touch My Blood (2018), Bhovamania (2020), and Be Careful What You Wish For (a collaborative album with Anatii) (2017).

3. In April of 2018, he was a featured guest at Word Wrestling Entertainment Live events in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

4) In 2002, the rapper and his two friends Vice Versa and Greyhound formed the hip hop group Entity. The group was nominated for a KORA Award in the category of Best African Hip Hop.

In the same year that Entity disbanded in 2006, AKA studied sound engineering and co-founded the production collective The I.V League with two other members.

5) The late rapper,  posted a photo on Instagram on February 21, 2021, announcing his engagement to girlfriend Nelli Tembe. In April of the same year, Tembe tragically died after falling from a hotel in Cape Town.

His legion of fans affectionately referred to him as AKA, Supa Mega, Bhova, and numerous other nicknames.
