Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan’s special adviser, issued a statement on Friday bearing his signature to make this information public.

The names of the five governors are as follows: Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State).

They are all pressing on Iyorchia Ayu to step down as national chairman of the PDP, despite his insistence that he will serve out his full term in that role.

Recent reports making rounds have suggested that the five governors were working for Jonathan’s cause.

“Those who insinuate that Dr. Jonathan is not happy with the PDP’s Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, because of whatever roles he played ahead of the 2015 elections forget that the former President actively campaigned for Atiku in 2019, attending the flag-off of his campaigns in Sokoto and subsequently participating in the campaigns in some states like Rivers and Bayelsa,” a portion of the statement read.

In addition, the statement stated that Jonathan hoped that “the PDP is able to resolve its internal crisis, unite all members, and have a good showing in the forthcoming 2023 elections.”
