Tinubu’s visit: Wike declares public holiday in Rivers
Governor Nyesom Wike has declared Wednesday, May 3, a public holiday in Rivers state in honour of President-elect Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s two-day visit to the state.
Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the Rumuola/Rumuokwuta Flyover and the ultra-modern Magistrates’ Court Complex in Port Harcourt on Wednesday and the following day during his visit.

Wike stated in a Tuesday state broadcast, “It is an honour for the government and people of Rivers State to host the President-elect on this historic visit. In light of this, I urge all Rivers residents to turn out en masse to welcome our President-elect and to demonstrate the traditional Rivers hospitality as he commissions these legacy projects for the glory of God and the advancement of our development.
“I hereby declare Wednesday, May 3, 2023, a public holiday so that the people of Rivers State can give a rousing welcome to our newly-elected president.

On Wednesday, 3rd May 2023, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., all shops and commercial establishments along the roads from Rumuola to Rumuokwuta in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State will be closed. I strongly urge all labour unions and security agencies to abide by this closure order.”
