A source in the neighbourhood claims that Egwuekwe was abducted by the gunmen in front of his home and taken to an unidentified location; since that time, no contact has been made.
According to reports, he travelled to his village in Ibughubu Umuchu from Zaria with the assistance of his driver to celebrate the Yuletide with his kin.
The victim was said to be touching the lives of many people in the community by attending to their needs, so it was learned that after the incident, the community had been thrown into panic because nothing had been heard about the businessman’s whereabouts for three days.

The source stated, “His driver travelled from the North for several hours, and when he arrived home and tried to enter his gate, some armed men approached the driver at gunpoint, forced him to open the car, and took him forcibly to an unidentified location.
The police were notified of the situation and took action, but so far there has been no resolution because neither the victim nor any suspects have been apprehended.
Some locals believe that the information about the victim’s return to the village may have been leaked by an insider.
When contacted, Mr. Charles Ezeabasili, President-General of Umuchu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent and stated that the kidnappers had not yet contacted the locals.
“The abductors have not made contact with the family members yet. We are anticipating their call, during which they will probably mention the ransom. In order to avoid doing anything that might result in the kidnappers killing him, we are also being cautious, Ezeabasili continued.
When contacted, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, confirmed the incident and stated that the police were keeping an eye on the situation.
