Gunmen raze Ifeanyi Ozoemena, Imo Assembly candidate’s country home
Gunmen have destroyed the country home of Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Imo State House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Ozoemena.
The candidate who confirmed the arson to our correspondent stated that his and his father’s homes in the state’s Okigwe Local Government Area were destroyed by the gunmen.
The distraught politician stated, “My home and that of my father were destroyed on Tuesday in Umuokparaoha village, Umulolo community, Okigwe Local Government Area, Imo State.
“They attacked at 2:00 p.m., set fire to the houses, and supervised the burning. The attack resulted in the destruction of two homes and other property. They operated without opposition. I am distraught. This is regrettable.
“I request the intervention of the police commissioner. I am thankful no lives were lost. My parents were not present when the disaster struck.”
Our correspondent learned that upon their arrival, the attackers threw explosives at the houses, which caught fire instantly.
Since 2022, Okigwe LGA has been plagued by a high level of insecurity and criminal activity, compelling locals to abandon their homes.
Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, the Labour Party candidate in the same Okigwe Local Government Area (LGA) for the state house of assembly, had his country home destroyed by gunmen in February.
Also in February, gunmen torched the home of Emeka Okoronkwo, the state commissioner for youth and sports, in the Ihube community of Okigwe LGA.
