Alhassan Doguwa, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, stated that with four wives and 28 children, he has the temperament to serve as the Speaker of the tenth Congress.

 

On Wednesday in Abuja, Dogunwa announced his intention to run for the position of Speaker. He stated that those who perceived him to be a highly volatile individual had misjudged him.

He stated that while his constituents do not view him as someone with a volatile temperament, others might.

 

The lawmaker emphasised that, to his knowledge, he is a lowly and humble individual.

 

Doguwa stated, “I will always present myself as a lowly Nigerian. Those who describe me as a highly temperamental individual misunderstand me, in my opinion and by my standards.

“The man in my home has four wives and twenty-eight children, while I’ve never divorced anyone. It is merely a misunderstanding. It can only be a misunderstanding, omission, or lack of proper comprehension if anyone of my disposition and social standing holds such a view.”

 

Regarding the alleged murder charge against him, Doguwa stated that he would prefer not to comment on a matter currently before the court.

 

The lawmaker stated that he believes the presumption of innocence until proven guilty applies to him, adding that it does not prevent him in any way from running for a position for which he is eminently qualified.
