Non-UK citizens are now eligible to apply to teach in UK Teachers Recruitment, according to the Department for Education in the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made on  1st of January 2023 and was made available to interested foreign nationals on the UK Teachers Recruitment Site.

From 1 February 2023 citizens of Nigeria are among the nations who can now apply for qualified teacher status through the Teaching Regulation Agency in the UK.

UK Teachers Recruitment Requirements 2023. 

• Eligible candidates must possess a qualified teacher status (QTS), a certification granted by the Teaching Regulation Agency, in order to be considered.
• Additionally, keep in mind that candidates do not require formal teacher certification.
• To teach children aged three to eleven in primary school, candidates must have “a minimum of two years teaching experience.
• A first (bachelor’s) degree from a UK or non-UK university.
• An English language qualification that is equivalent to a grade four General Certificate of Secondary Education.
• A maths qualification that is equivalent to a grade four GCSE, and a physics, chemistry, or biology (science) qualification that is equal to a grade four GCSE.”

To apply to train for an international QTS, you simply need to know the information below.

• A new teaching credential supported by the UK government is called “international qualified teacher status,” “iQTS.”
• It is delivered online in collaboration with schools all over the world by English teacher training organisations.
• Meets the same requirements as English QTS and results in automatic QTS award.

It is accessible to all non-UK citizens, is currently offered by six providers, and will be made more widely available starting in September 2023.

• It’s the only global teacher training programme that results in an automatic QTS award (other courses may offer valuable training but do not lead to QTS)
