Ex-Rivers Speaker Alleges Bribery Attempt to Impeach Governor Fubara.
Ahoada East, Rivers State – In a shocking revelation, former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, has alleged that he was offered a substantial sum of money to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Ehie made this claim while speaking at an event in Ahoada East area of Rivers State over the weekend.

According to Ehie, he was approached by unknown individuals who attempted to bribe him to remove the governor from office. However, he refused to accept the offer, stating that he was not interested in the proposal. They invited me, your son, to impeach the governor, and I told them clearly I was not interested,” he said. “They gave me all the money that was hidden before, which I rejected. And because I refused, they conspired and declared me wanted.”
Ehie, who currently serves as Chief of Staff to Governor Fubara, played a crucial role in the earlier attempt to impeach the governor. As the majority leader of the assembly at the time, he and a few others opposed the move, leading to a split in the assembly. This resulted in Ehie emerging as the speaker of the faction that was later dissolved following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention and the signing of the peace accord by both Wike and Fubara camps.

However, the peace accord collapsed shortly after, and the two camps returned to their conflict. In 2023, Ehie was declared wanted by the police in connection with the invasion of the State House of Assembly. Additionally, an explosion occurred at the state assembly building in October 2023, amidst reports of lawmakers attempting to impeach Fubara.
The Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers had reportedly filed criminal complaints against Ehie with the Rivers State Police Command regarding the invasion and arson of the Rivers State House of Assembly chambers by unidentified hoodlums.
Ehie’s allegations have sparked concerns about the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State and the attempts to impeach Governor Fubara. The situation remains volatile, with many calling for calm and peaceful resolution to the crisis.
