INEC To Deploy Navy, Army, Air Force, Police To Conduct Election

Armed and air forces will be used to conduct the 2023 elections, according to INEC.

The Nigerian army, navy, and air force will play an important role in the general elections that will be held in 2019 according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This online media outlet learned that INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said this at the inauguration of the Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC) on Friday in Abuja.

The Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) would also be recruited as members for the vital election, according to the electoral umpire head.

According to Yakubu, this is in accordance with their legal obligations for the clearance and release of products at seaports and other points of entry into the nation.

In relation to what transpired prior to the 2019 general election, he made the commitment that the presidential election would not be delayed owing to logistical problems.

The Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee (EOLC), a permanent committee led by a National Commissioner, and this committee are two different entities, the INEC chairman declared.

“Instead, ELOC is an inter-agency body set up just before a general election to achieve a single goal. Therefore, it is ad hoc in nature.
