INEC Halts Collation Of Governorship Results In Abia, Enugu

 

In certain areas of Abia and Enugu states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended further collation of the governorship election results.

 

According to Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, the suspension became necessary after Nsukka and Nkanu East called for a review of the election results.

“At its meeting on Monday, March 20, 2023, the commission reviewed the conduct of the statewide governorship and state assembly elections held on Saturday, March 18.

“As a result of the meeting, the Commission decided to immediately suspend further collation of the Governorship election results in certain regions of Abia and Enugu states,” Okoye said.

He stated, “Similarly, reports from Enugu State call for a review of the results from the two outstanding Local Government Areas for the governorship election: Nsukka and Nkanu East.”

 

“As a result, the commission suspends the collation of results in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the two outstanding Local Government Areas of Enugu State,” the commission said.

Okoye stated that a review will be conducted immediately prior to the conclusion of the process.

 

He also pleaded for the voters, parties, and candidates in the affected states to be understanding and patient.
