INEC Officially postpones senatorial election in Enugu East
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the Enugu East Senatorial District elections.
INEC, Chairman Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this information during a press briefing on Friday in Abuja, the Federal Capital.

According to him, the election previously scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the senatorial district has been moved to Saturday, March 11, 2023.
Yakubu stated that the postponement in the district comprising four local government areas was necessitated by the assassination of Oyibo Chukwu, the Labour Party’s Senatorial candidate for the Enugu East district.

He stated that the Labour Party contacted the electoral body to convey its intent to provide a replacement and proceed with the election on the new date.
Wednesday, Chukwu and his personal assistant were assassinated in the Eke-Otu Amechi-Awkunanaw neighbourhood of Enugu by thugs who set their vehicle on fire.
