IPMAN: Petroleum Marketers Break Silence on Alleged Order to Members To Suspend All Operations Nationwide

IPMAN denies shutting down filling stations

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria said that the rumor that its more than 30,000 members would close their gas stations was “fake.”

Mike Osatuyi, the National Controller of Operations for IPMAN, told newsmen on Tuesday that the memo from the Chairman of IPMAN’s Borno chapter, Mohammed Kuluwa, asking all of its members in the state to stop working was a bad idea.

“Illegal news. “There are bad eggs and sabotage,” Osatuyi said over the phone to Journalists.

Elder Chinedu Okonkwo, the National President of IPMAN, told our correspondent on the phone that Kuluwa should not have made the statement that was attributed to him.

“He shouldn’t have said what he said. He has, in fact, taken it back,” Okonkwo said.

Kuluwa told IPMAN members in Borno State earlier that they should stop ordering products from source until further notice.

The association said that the decision was made because of “the critical situation as it affects our sourcing and selling of products at a loss” and “the action of the authority to force us to sell products at a loss,” according to the first statement.

In a later statement, however, Kuluwa said, “Having met with the relevant authority, all gas stations should open right away.” Keep selling while the association continues to talk with more people and will keep you updated.”

Mojeed Adesope, the Public Relations Officer for the Ibadan Depot, was also said to have said something similar on Sunday, telling IPMAN members in Oyo State to stop buying products and close down their stations.

When our correspondent called Mojeed, he said that he had not made such a statement.
