Joe Biden, the President of the United States of America, has urged all eligible Nigerians to vote for their preferred candidates on Saturday.

 

On February 25, 2023, presidential and national assembly elections will be held in Nigeria.

In a Thursday statement to Nigerians before the elections, Biden urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to make their voices heard.

“Elections are essential to the functioning of a democracy, and all Nigerians deserve the opportunity to choose their future freely and fairly.

“On election day, I urge all Nigerians regardless of religion, region, or ethnicity to exercise this fundamental freedom and make their voices heard, including young voters, many of whom will be casting their first ballots.

Biden stated, “While the United States does not endorse a specific candidate or political party, we strongly support a peaceful and transparent process that reflects the will of the Nigerian people.”

The United States will stand with the Nigerian people as they chart a path toward a more democratic, prosperous, and secure future, President Joe Biden stated that upon the signing of a peace accord by the political parties and candidates in Nigeria’s presidential election he is assured of a peaceful conduct.

 

While praising President Buhari’s firm commitment to respect the will of the people, he urged “voters to remain calm and patient as ballots are counted, and urged political parties and candidates to live up to their promise.”
