Young Wayas received his education in the United Kingdom, where he attended Higher Tottenham Technical College in London, West Bronwich College of Commerce, Science and Technology in West Bronwich, West Bronwich, Birmingham, and Aston University in Birmingham.
From 1972 to 1974, the young technocrat worked in the civil service and was appointed Commissioner for Transport in the defunct South-Eastern State, which is now divided into Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

Wayas was entertained by boxer Muhammad Ali during a visit to the United States in September 1981, who threw a spectacular party in his honor. Ali had previously visited Nigeria and been lavished with attention.
10.Waya’s last major political appearance was in 2010, when former President Goodluck Jonathan bestowed the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger on him.
