The letter states that he resigned from the PDP in order to take a break from politics.
The letter reads in part: All praise and thanks to Almighty Allah, who has kept me as a member of the PDP since the party’s inception in 1998 until today, and during which time I have served in various capacities, culminating in my service as the two-term Speaker of the State House of Assembly between 2013 and 2016.
“It is noteworthy that my years of service have been marked by surmountable obstacles for the glory of Allah the Almighty.
“Having reached this point and experienced the ups and downs of my political career in the PDP thus far, it is time for me to take a break from active politics.
“I am therefore submitting my resignation from the party effective immediately in order to take a well-deserved break.”
“I thank the party leadership at all levels for the support I’ve received during my time in the party”
The former Speaker also copied all PDP political leaders in the Kogi central senatorial district, as well as the party’s state leader, Ibrahim Idris, and the former governor of the state.
