Kayode Adebowale Biography
On the 11th of January 1962, Kayode Oyebode Adebowale FRSC was born to Mr. and Mrs. Adebowale Esuruoso in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. The University of Ibadan’s Vice-Chancellor is a Nigerian scientist who is the university’s thirteenth vice chancellor.
Kayode Adebowale Educational Background
Between 1967 and 1972, he attended St. Marks Primary School in Oke-Ijaga, Ijebu-Igbo, and between 1973 and 1978, he attended Ayedaade Grammar School in Ikire, where he completed his secondary education between 1973 and 1978.
He received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Ibadan.
B.Sc degree in Chemistry in June 1984, followed by an M.Sc degree in Industrial Chemistry in September 1985 and a Ph.D in Industrial Chemistry in October 1991, all from the University of Michigan.
In 2006, he was promoted to the position of Professor of Industrial Chemistry.
The Eberhard Karls University in Tuebingen, Germany, and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Rome, Italy, both provided Adebowale with postdoctoral training opportunities.
Kayode Adebowale Career
Professor Adebowale’s professional career began in 1987 as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Ibadan, where he remained until 1991. He joined the Federal University of Technology, Akure in October 1991 as a Lecturer II and was quickly promoted to the positions of Lecturer I and Senior Lecturer. In 1997, he joined the faculty as a Senior Lecturer. In February 1999, he began working at the University of Ibadan as a Senior Lecturer, and was later promoted to the positions of Reader in 2003 and Professor in October 2006, respectively.
Professor Adebowale held a variety of administrative positions at the University of Ibadan, as well as serving on a number of committees. Examining Officer in the Department of Chemistry from 2003 to 2005; Postgraduate Coordinator in the Department of Chemistry from 2000 to 2002; Sub-Dean (Postgraduate) in the Faculty of Science from 2002 to 2004; Dean in the Faculty of Science from 2009 to 2011; Member of the Committee of Provosts and Deans from 2009 to 2011; and Member of the Committee on the Appointment of Emeritus Professors from 2012 to the present. He served as the Convener of the Investigative Panel on the Determination of the Class of Degree of two students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology, in 2013 and as the Director, Special Duties, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, between 2015 and 2016. Many awards have been bestowed upon him, including Fellowship in the Nigeria Academy of Science, the Polymer Institute of Nigeria, the Chemical Society of Nigeria, the Science Association of Nigeria, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, and the African Academy of Science. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Adebowale has a long list of publications in prestigious national and international journals, and he has served as an external examiner in Nigeria and elsewhere.
He has over 130 research articles to his credit, as well as a national patent.

He serves on the International Scientific Advisory Board of the African Centre of Excellence for Water and Environmental Research (African Centre of Excellence for Water and Environmental Research) (ACEWATER).
Adebowale is currently involved with the Nigerian Young Academy, where he supports two national awards for young scientists, one of which is for distinguished young women in Chemical Sciences research. Adebowale is also involved with the Nigerian Young Academy’s Young Scientists Awards Program.
