Labour Party Defeats PDP Reps Minority Leader, Elumelu

Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, the minority leader of the House of Representatives and a representative of the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, failed in his attempt to win reelection after losing to Ngozi Okolie, the Labour Party candidate.

Elumelu is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the election and was seeking re-election to the Green Chamber for the third time.

Ngozi Okolie, who is seemingly an unknown political underdog, defeated Elumelu in the results collated from the four councils that made up the constituency in Saturday’s National Assembly election.

The Labour Party polled 53,879 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, who scored 33,466 votes in the election.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party, one of Nigeria’s main opposition parties in the 2023 elections, has rejected the ongoing collation and announcement of the presidential election results in Abuja.

The party on Monday said it was doing so because INEC failed to publish all the results from polling units on its iREV server.

The opposition party thus questioned the integrity of the collation and announcement exercise at the national collation centre in Abuja.
