Lagos shuts , details emerges.

The Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down the popular Quilox Club on Victoria Island’s Ozumba Mbadwe Street for “noise pollution.”

The club owned by a member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, was shut down for failing to comply with directives regarding event organisation and for not obtaining a sound control permit, according to a statement released by LASEPA on Sunday.

Fasawe stated that the agency received distress calls from concerned neighbours with video evidence to support their claims of alleged environmental nuisances caused by the club.

Lagos had previously increased decibel levels to accommodate leisure/tourism industry interests. She explained, “However, we urged them to apply for sound control permits prior to hosting events so that we could reach out to the intended program’s host community and deploy our officials to the venue for proper monitoring and prevention of excessive noise pollution.”

According to her, Quilox Club, like every other stakeholder, was extended an invitation, but the management ignored it for reasons best known to them.

She stated that “no individual or group is greater than society” and that the agency is still working to ensure that all interests are protected by law.

Peller, who represents the Iseyin/Iteswaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency in Oyo State, left the All Progressives Congress () in June 2022 and joined the Accord Party in preparation for the 2023 general election.

His club was closed in December 2019 due to noise pollution and traffic congestion, and in July 2020 for violating COVID-19 regulations.
