Effurun, Delta State – In a strong statement, Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj, the Delta State Director of the Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights, has condemned the brutal attack on peaceful protesters at the Nationwide End Hardship protest held at Effurun Roundabout on August 1st.

The attack, reportedly carried out by Uvwie thugs led by individuals identified as Zamani and Moses, resulted in injuries to several protesters. Among those notably targeted was Bar Omemiroro Maxwell Ogedegbe, whose health has since deteriorated. Ogedegbe collapsed during a meeting and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical attention, highlighting the severity of the attack.

Prince Godstime Oj has called on the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene swiftly to ensure justice is served for Bar Ogedegbe and all victims of the attack.
He emphasized the need for the perpetrators to be brought to book and for measures to be put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
“We will not stand idly by while peaceful protesters are attacked and intimidated. We demand a thorough investigation and urge the authorities to take concrete steps to protect citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and free speech,” stated Prince Godstime Oj.
The incident at Effurun Roundabout underscores the urgent need for action to safeguard the rights and safety of peaceful protesters in Delta State.
